Higher education costs have risen around 5% annually for each of the last thirty years - more than twice the rate of inflation. That means the cost of higher education has quadrupled. Your income during that same period has grown 2% per year.
Families can no longer afford higher education.
There are multiple ways that government can lower the cost of higher education for families, including offering vouchers or low interest loans. However, while it will just help defray the cost for families, it won't lower the what universities charge.
We believe competition is the key. We propose a USA University system with campuses in all fifty states. The system would support four million of America's best students annually (about 20% of total college students). Tuition would be FREE. ZERO. ZIPPO. ZILCH.
Not only would that ensure four million families save tens of thousands of dollars annually, it will also force other universities and colleges to lower their costs to compete for those best students.

USA University will focus on developing skilled professionals that can support our key initiatives now and into the future. We will train data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI developers to help design and build new transportation, healthcare, and housing systems. We will train cyber security, network and digital infrastructure experts to protect and defend our smart buildings, vehicles, and utilities. We'll train renewable energy and sustainability engineers to design our transportation corridors and 'free' energy grids. We'll train healthcare professionals to provide the best care in the world to an aging population and to build the best, most cost-effective healthcare system in the world. We'll need business and risk managers skilled in global operations. Most importantly we'll need tradespeople - electricians, HVAC, solar, advanced manufacturing - to build all the new housing, transportation, and healthcare systems. These will be "new-collar", high paying jobs that combine technology with practical skills. When we're done, we'll have the best educated work force in the world once again.
