To Run for the U.S. House of Representatives

Age: At least 25 years old

Citizenship: A U.S. citizen for at least 7 years

Residency: Must live in the state you want to represent (not necessarily the district)

To Run for the U.S. Senate

Age: At least 30 years old

Citizenship: A U.S. citizen for at least 9 years

Residency: Must live in the state you want to represent

Each state sets its own rules for how candidates qualify. Common steps include:

1. Filing paperwork with your state’s election office or the Federal Election Commission (FEC)
2. Collecting signatures from registered voters (the number varies by state and office)
3. Paying a filing fee, if required
4. Declaring party affiliation (USA3!)

Candidates must register with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) once they raise or spend over $5,000.

You’ll need to:

1. Appoint a campaign committee
2. Open a campaign bank account
3. File regular reports detailing contributions and expenses
